I always wondered - even though it was a truly compassionate gesture - why the Masai Warriors of Kenya, felt such a deep and abiding friendship towards America, that they presented us with 2 of their most prized cattle, after New York's 911 massacre.

Yesterday, I discovered why. In 1956, US Film Director Terence Young went to Africa to film SAFARI.....a Victor Mature movie about the Masai Tribe, which depicted them as the genuinely brave lion-hunters they are. In that film, there were some white guys who were villains, but the Masai were always incredibly heroic and deeply caring individuals.

I imagine that if another country's filmmakers portray you this beautifully, that you'd watch their movie over and over and over......and that you'd feel a deep sense of pride mixed with fondness for those who created that film, so that when a calamity befell them, you'd want to share their sorrow, by sending them what to you, is the most precious gift of all.

It's a wonderful thought, isn't it?
